A revolutionary exoskeleton is now available at Synaptic — redefining what's possible for individuals with spinal cord and neurological injuries.
XoMotion™ is a wearable robotic exoskeleton that helps people with spinal cord injuries and neurological conditions stand, walk, and move during neurorehabilitation — without needing crutches or a walker.
It uses advanced sensors and responsive motors to support natural movement and restore mobility in ways once thought impossible.
Developed by Human in Motion Robotics Inc., XoMotion is designed for individuals with spinal cord injuries, stroke, multiple sclerosis, and other neurological conditions that affect mobility.
It’s the first device of its kind to mimic the physiological motion of the lower extremity, giving the user the ability to perform all complex mobility tasks.
XoMotion’s advanced sensor systems and multi-modal controllers allow the user to quickly gain hands-free functionality, providing an unprecedented level of freedom and independence.
Thanks to donor support, Synaptic is the first clinic in Canada to bring XoMotion™ into clinical treatment.
Through hands-on research, training, and collaboration, we’re empowering more clinics to adopt XoMotion and reach more people living with neurological challenges.
"We’re building a stronger medical community today so more patients can access the treatment they need tomorrow."

The system is designed for individuals who meet the following criteria:
Height: 5'0" - 6'4" (152 - 193 cm) *can vary due to limb lengths
Weight: Under 220 lbs (100 kg)
Cognitive ability to follow instructions and safely use the device
Range of motion required within lower extremities to safely move
XoMotion-R allows individuals with severe gait impairments who can tolerate standing to perform ambulatory functions.
Yes, contraindications include:
Individuals who are currently pregnant, breastfeeding, or suspected pregnancy
History of lower extremity fragility fractures
Significant medical conditions (e.g., infections, circulatory issues, severe pressure sores, severe spasticity, uncontrolled blood pressure and at times autonomic dysreflexia)
Cognitive or communication impairments that limit safe use
Yes, the XoMotion™ is approved by Health Canada, has undergone rigorous testing, and is operated by trained practitioners.
This will be assessed prior to using the device and will be considered in eligibility. If severe spasticity occurs, the trained practitioners will bring the device to a stable position and will review if further motion can be completed.
The system allows for a rapid transition from standing to sitting. In urgent situations (e.g., orthostatic hypotension or autonomic dysreflexia), practitioners follow safety protocols to lower the individual and safely transfer them.
The device is controlled using a joystick by the supervising practitioner.
