At Synaptic, accessibility is at the heart of everything we do, including how we’ve designed our space. Whether you have lived experience with disability or not, many features in our clinic might go unnoticed at first glance. But every detail is intentional. From hallway width to air quality, our physical environment is built to reduce barriers, support independence, and create a space where every body feels welcome.
Here are a few of the thoughtful touches that make our space more accessible for clients, caregivers, and visitors alike.
💡 Illuminating the Way
Lighting can make or break a space, especially for individuals with traumatic brain injuries, post-concussion symptoms, migraines, or sensory sensitivities.
Every light in our clinic is dimmable, allowing us to tailor the environment to what each person needs on a given day.
It’s a simple feature that helps prevent discomfort, reduce overwhelm, and support healing.
Lighting at Synaptic was generously donated by UTechnology.
🛣️ Roll On Through
Our hallways are extra wide to allow for smooth movement using mobility aids of all sizes—wheelchairs, walkers, and scooters included.
It’s a simple but powerful way to support autonomy and dignity in everyday navigation.
🚻 Bathrooms That Get It
Using a bathroom should never be stressful or complicated.
Ours are thoughtfully designed with automatic lights, sinks, soap dispensers, and door openers. Plus, plenty of space to maneuver.
There’s also a fully accessible shower available for client use. These features support independence, reduce physical strain, and prioritize safety and respect.
🦠 Walls That Work Overtime
Our walls are coated with specialized antibacterial paint that helps reduce the spread of germs by actively improving air quality.
This feature isn’t something most people notice—but for individuals with weakened immune systems, it adds a meaningful layer of protection.
Thoughtful design includes protecting people in ways they may not even realize they need.
🌊 Soft Steps, Seamless Support
Hard flooring might look sleek, but it can be risky for people with balance issues, gait impairments, or fatigue.
Our soft, cushioned floors reduce impact in the event of a fall, and the completely seamless design removes trip hazards like transitions or thresholds.
It’s one more way we’ve prioritized safety without sacrificing comfort or design.
🔒 Privacy With Purpose
Not everyone wants to receive care, or process and work through difficult things, in a shared space.
Our private treatment rooms offer a calm, enclosed environment for one-on-one care, confidential conversations, or simply a moment to reset.
Each room includes dimmable lighting and adaptable furnishings to meet the needs of diverse bodies and brains.
🚗 Welcome Starts at the Door
Getting into a building shouldn’t require extra effort.
Our accessible parking spots are located directly outside the entrance, and a gently sloped ramp leads to automatic doors—making entry smooth and barrier-free.
This simple setup means more independence for our clients, and a more inclusive welcome from the very start.
Accessibility doesn’t always look like a ramp or an elevator. It shows up in lighting, flooring, air quality, and space design, often in ways most people never have to think about.
But we do. Because when we say everyone is welcome here, we mean it.
These features are made possible thanks to donors who believe in inclusive, thoughtful care.
Support our work by becoming a donor today and help us continue building spaces that meet people where they’re at.
